My creative journey took an unexpected turn last summer when I took a break from painting. For months, I hadn't picked up a brush, and I couldn't explain why. But as I took a step back from one medium, a new one entered my life. I discovered digital art through a workshop and instantly fell in love with the process.
While I'll always love the tactile nature of painting, this journey allowed me to explore a whole new way of creating. It was a fascinating experience, and I was thrilled when it eventually led to me selling my digital art online. Today, I'm happy to say that I still earn residuals from these pieces.
In all my work, I am captivated by the Impressionist period. I love how the artists captured real life in fleeting moments. However, one major downside of that era was the lack of women of color as subjects. My digital art is a direct response to that historical omission. I am creating a modern-day Impressionism where women of color are at the center, finally getting the artistic spotlight they've always deserved.
